WISHES DO HAPPEN : Meeting Jayesslee and Clara C in Kuala Lumpur

I have always been a big fan of musicians. Be it local or international, I look forward to meeting good and talented musicians. One of my first concert was when I traveled to Singapore by myself, just to watch a Norah Jones concert. Since then I have been to Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia to watch concerts. Jakarta especially as I always go for the Java Jazz shows.

Besides concerts, the YouTube artists are the ones I am so crazy nowadays. For the past four years or so, I have been watching various people on YouTube making amazing music (not forgetting cute pandas sneezing, two small girls singing Nikki Minaj, etc) has been part of my YouTube watching regiment. There are a few amazing artists that I would not miss, people like AJ Rafeal, David Choi, Dallas Green, WongFu Productions, Kina Grannis, and my FAVORITES are people such as Jayesslee, Clara C, Cathy Nguyen and also the amazing Andy Garcia.

Well thanks to our a good friend from a local radio station, I had the amazing privilege of meeting two of my favorite acts. Namely Jayesslee and Clara C. I am gonna feature some pictures and videos that were done when they were in town during their concert and also at the studios performing. Firstly Jayesslee, the twins are from Australia, they rose to fame after singing on YouTube. The song that made well known was “Officially Missing You by Tamia”. You can find them HERE

Well, that was for the twins, and yesterday was another wish came true for me as Clara C was in town as well. I was so happy to meet her, not only she is talented but this girl is super down to earth. Here is something about Clara taken from her website:

Having been a closet musician most of her life, Clara has only recently revealed her talent to the world. In a short period of time, she has won prestigious competitions such as Kollaboration 10, ISA 09: Los Angeles and the KAC Media Creative Juice Night.
Clara has just begun to capture the hearts and minds of the music community worldwide. Her quirky charm, creative ideas, unlimited instrumental and vocal talent has allowed people to see Clara as the next big singer/songwriter. Clara’s music can best be described as a synergy of folk/pop/rock sound that when blended together creates a unique experience.

She has performed at renowned venues such as The White House Dept. of Education, Hollywood Bowl, Shrine Auditorium and more where she performed for crowds of up to 18,000 people. Clara’s debut album was released on September 24th, 2010 to a sold out crowd at the Hotel Cafe venue. Look for Clara as she tours throughout the year promoting her debut album, The Art in My Heart.

Well one thing I have learnt from meeting this artist is, they are so down to earth, that really makes me want to keep on doing what I love doing and be passionate about it. They are so well known and yet you can talk to them like they are your friends. I think a rise in the YouTube artist is very eminent in these coming years. So look out for that upcoming artist that you knew from your high school, or even your neighbour.

In continuation from my previous posting, my India trip was amazing. I also went to Jaipur, a city where the architecture is simply amazing.

Well Jaipur (Rajasthani: जैपर Hindi: जयपुर) [ˈdʒəjpʊɾ] ( listen), also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 3.1 million.

Jaipur is one of the finest planned cities of India, located in the semi-desert lands of Rajasthan. The city which once had been the capital of the royalty now is the capital city of Rajasthan. The very structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. At present, Jaipur is a major business centre with all requisites of a metropolitan city. The city is remarkable among pre-modern Indian cities for the width and regularity of its streets which are laid out into six sectors separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide. The urban quarters are further divided by networks of gridded streets. Five quarters wrap around the east, south, and west sides of a central palace quarter, with a sixth quarter immediately to the east.

The Palace quarter encloses a sprawling palace complex, (Hawa Mahal), formal gardens, and a small lake. Nahargarh Fort, which was the residence of the King Sawai Jai Singh II, crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. Last month I had the chance to finally go to one the country that I always wanted to visit. India, is one the biggest countries in the Asian continent. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; the People’s Republic of China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.

India is one place where cultures, language, customs and color are plentiful. My journey was to the northern part of India. I visited three places which was Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. This is the shots I took when I was in Delhi :

India In Hipstamatic

Finally I got the time to blog on my India trip. Well this post is on the pictures that I took using the iPhone 3Gs with the Hipstamatic app. My trip was to three parts of India which were, New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Anyway these are shots taken with the phone and more of my shots will be uploaded of the ones taken with my DSLR. Anyway here some of the shots :

The Wonder Lens

Yes, that is what I called this baby, the 50mm,f 1.8 (Canon), cuz I am using a Canon anyway. Well this is one the cheapest in fact is the cheapest lens in the series. Despite it being cheap and plastic like ! But it sure take some killer images. The bokeh is just nice and if you invest in a bigger aperture like f1.4 or f1.2 it will be even crazy. Anyway I am gonna be adding this series more I guess, but here is just a feel of it :

Sp for those who wanna get this lens, I think it is a good deal and the pictures created are amazing.

Football : Malaysia vs Singapore, World Cup 2014 Qualifying Match

It was that time of the year where Malaysian football is at its peak. A few weeks ago, Malaysia played against Singapore for the World Cup 2014 Qualifying match in the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil. Malaysia needed to win this match in order to move on to the next round, loosing in Singapore Kalang Stadium did not help them with the aggregates as well. Despite the atmosphere and energy or the Malaysian supporters was amazing, the Malaysian team lost their hopes of making it to the next round. Anyway here are some shots from the stadium :

Picnic Time with KL FLICKR

Last Sunday was an amazing time. KL Flickr peeps met up at Lake Gardens in KL to have a picnic. As usual there was loads of food and laughter. One of them brought a bottle of bubbles and it was an awesome taking pictures of that. Also the greenery around the park was nice. Here are some pictures :

WORLD MUSIC AT ITS BEST IN SARAWAK

That is how I felt exactly in the words of the reggae legend. The Rainforest World Music Festival 2011 was simply amazing. With music from all around the world, it was a mix of traditional and modern sounds all mashed to create the perfect ambience. This was my first trip to the festival but I must say the atmosphere was simply electrifying.

There were bands from Italy, Iran, Dominican Republic, Australia, Mexico, Vanuatu, UK , USA and many more. For a first timer like me, the music was simply amazing and you have to be there to experience something like that.

One of the most unique performances were the Leweton Women’s Water Music. The group of 6 ladies created beautiful music using their bare hands by tapping and clapping on the surface of the water. A short excerpt on them : “From the remote, northern tropical islands of Vanuatu, comes an extremely unique and rarely seen tradition, called water music. Dressed in traditional costumes of flowers and leaves, a small number of women wade into the water up to their waist, stand in the shape of a half moon and begin to play. The water is beaten in rhythmic dance of bodies and waves. The water itself is the instrument producing a wide range of sounds in intoxicating rhythms, with pieces titled “The Sound of Thunder”, “Big Whale Fish Playing With Small Whale Fish”, “Waves Breaking on the Reef”. This will be a rare glimpse into an ancient but living tradition.”

Another power house was Kissmet from UK. This bhangra infused rock style music were the closing band on the last day. They were just a band that brings the rhythm and the beats to the hearts of the people. Well, these are some pictures from the festival that I captured.

In conclusion the festival is something everyone must experience at least once in their life. Many would say that world music is not their cup of tea but to feel the sheer presence of traditional and modern music coming together is something extraordinary. Be it bluegrass or the sounds of the Sarawak ‘sape’ , the festival is something that I am looking forward to go to next year.
