During my Kelantan trip, I was at a fishing village called Tok Bali, it was totally awesome to see people flocking there to get the catch fresh from the sea. It was a cool experience for me as I got to see this first hand. Here are some shots :

Holla people, yes it’s been a few weeks since I last blogged and I am so used to start my postings in this same exact manner. But at times it’s kinda OK to just relax and take your time to write about things that happened in your life. Well, I was in the east coast side of Malaysia last week.

The state of Kelantan is where girlfriend grew up in, so I decided to make a trip to see the place and also to see her family as well. Kelantan is just full of colors and lots of interesting sights and sounds that one can experience when you are there. I had a lot of things to photography and one of the cool things I saw was the art of Keris making.

The Keris is a traditional weapon used by the Malays for hundreds of years. So when I visited the Kelatan craft centre, there was a Keris maker and I was privileged to take some shots of him and do a short photo story on him. Here are some pictures from the set :

Last weekend was an awesome time with my friends from KL Flickr. The monthly meetup this time was brought to the town of Melaka and also it was a good place as food is just abundant there. We waited till break fast time as it is the month of Ramadhan. It was indeed a wondeful time of cathing up with friends and meeting new people too. Oh MY GOD ! Its been ages since I last updated my post and it has been indeed a great time for me since I joined the Star. I have been meeting lots of people and also I had the chance of going to Bandung with the office colleagues for the National Sales Training cum seminar. And you know me, I like taking pictures and hence I was taking some street shots as I was there, and also pictures of skies when I was on the plane.

Also during the trip we went up to the ever famous Tangkuban Perahu volcano which is still active and took some pictures there too. All in all it was a good trip, and my colleagues they are like shopping kings & queens as they shop till couldnt walk in Bandung. Well, here are some shots that I took when I was in Bandung, at least the ones that I liked :

At the age 62, she climbs up the Tangkuban Perahu volcano crater for the past 35 years. She sells grilled bread and bananas, she has been working here all her life and it was indeed a heartwarming story as she went on to say that she has almost 11 great grandchildren and all her kids are in the town but she just kept on staying in the small town of Bandung and working near the touristy Tangkuban Perahu mountain.

This dude was using an old Canon FT and shooting on film. He captured the people who getting down from our bus and later he went back and developed them and was selling it to us when we in the shoppin area. Talk about effiency

R.I.P YASMIN AHMAD : 1958-2009

Looks like Malaysia has lost a talented person and its so hard to grasp the fact that she  has left this earth. The time she spent here has trully inspired many people in one way or another. She is none other than the loved YASMIN AHMAD. Her creative energy was so crazy that everytime you watch her commercials it would bring tears to your eyes.

The creative director for Leo Burnett Malaysia, Yasmin proved to the public that love and joy is all needed to make the best visuals in making an advertisement worthwhile watching and has greater depth to it. When her movie career kicked off, I was in awe with all her works, from the story of two elderly couples in RABUN to her heartwarmin story of love in SEPET and her latest movie TALENTIME it was simply amazing. All her movies are simply down to earth and its purely MALAYSIAN.

I was privilleged enough to talk to her twice, once was during the judging of my short film competition with Vision Media called ” Generasi Digital” and also during the Global Indian Film Festival held in KL a few years back. The one thing she said to me was ” no matter what happens around, DO NOT give in what you believe in and make you sure you put that into practice and see it blossom”. During one of her screening that happened in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, when I watched the director’s cut for SEPET, I was like in awe, how she can shoot such a AWESOME show in just 12 days.  When asked why she used poems from Rabindranath Tagore, she told me that poems often speaks of the human nature and his (Rabindranath) was simply divine and mind blowing but comes back to the human nature and heart which relates to her. I can go on and on about her as my background in film & TV has been one of the reasons why I loved all her works so much. Anyway here are some of her works, enjoy :

All I have to say is that I will trully miss her and the film industry has trully lost a bold, courageous person that is simply mind blowing !

At times I only blog about my pictures and my street photography stuff. Amdist all of this, I am very in touch with the local music scene, not as much as some people I know. I have been in touch with it for a while and I am very much blessed to be in Malaysia and to see all these wonderful talent. New talents who just blow ur mind away and the seasoned ones who still proves that we in Malaysia have really good musicians around.

I want to talk about a good friend, who is a singer songwriter and she is unique in her own way. The first time I met her was during the OMG sessions at Food Foundry, Petaling Jaya. Her rendition of “Falling Slowly” from the Academy Award winning movie for BEST SONG “ONCE” just blew me away. Her laid back and suave voice just spoke to me that people who sing doesnt need to be right on your face to send a message through songs but just singing from the heart matters. So, I give to you WANI ARDY .

Her small stature and sweet looks may give people the thought that this young girl is your girl next door but when she sings, that is the thing that makes you wonder “WHERE on earth she writes like that ? “During the OMG session, she sang her song titled ” Teori Lucu”... which means ‘Funny Theory’ direct translation from Malay. I was really overjoyed with the down to earth lyrics that speaks about life around her… Here is the song :

Yes, its been a short while since I posted but yeah lots of things been going around yeah…Anyway first up is the tragic death of the world’s best entertainer of all time. Michael Joseph Jackson died on 25th July 09 at the age of 50. The man who created the “Moonwalk” was said to be rushed to the hospital after he passes in his house and had a cardiac arrest that killed him. He will be someone that we all cannot forget and his songs will live on in our hearts forever.

All of us will miss him, that is for sure. Moving along last week the ultimate arts and music festival known as URBANSCAPES 2009. I was there and I was excited as my photos were part of an installation with the KL FLickr group that featured 24 different people with different jobs in KL.
